VAEP–OBV Divergence

What it is

Compares VAEP (which folds in possession history — what led to the action) against On-Ball Value (OBV, which strips it out and values the action alone) for the same player. A player whose VAEP is far above their OBV is being carried by the team state around them; a player whose OBV holds up independent of VAEP is closer to a clean read of the individual variable. Concept stage: needs both metrics computed on the same event stream to be directly comparable.
